I was recently prescribed Imiquimod 5% Cream for actinic keratosis. I've started using it, and I'm curious about other people's experiences. What side effects have you encountered? How do you manage them? Also, does anyone know if the skin color changes are permanent or if that can be fixed? I've read the package leaflet, but I'm still a bit worried. Any advice or tips for getting the most out of this treatment would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Imiquimod saved my life! I had superficial basal cell cancer and it got rid of it. I had some side effects but they were nothing compared to what could have happened.

I had a reaction. Skin looked bad, but I didn't have any symptoms. I was also worried about the skin color changes. How long did it take you to see that?

I've had some skin color changes from Imiquimod. It took a few weeks, but after a few months it went away. That's all I have to say about that.

I had a friend who used Imiquimod for sun-damaged skin. She said it was worth it, but she had to deal with a lot of redness and flaking. She said to apply the cream before bed. Her skin reaction were the worst right after she would apply it, so I guess just give it time. I think the most important thing is to keep the area clean and comfortable.

When I started using Imiquimod, my doctor told me to expect some skin irritation, but it's been much worse than I anticipated. Does anyone else have a similar experience? I'm just wondering if I should talk to my doctor about changing my dosage

I used this for genital warts. It worked great, but the side effects were rough. I had severe flu-like symptoms and some pretty intense skin reactions. My doctor had me take a break for a few days, and it helped a lot. Be prepared for that. But, this is my second round and I feel like it is worth it.

The worst for me was the swelling. I couldn't even walk around for a little bit. Glad it's over!

I'm on my 3rd week of Imiquimod, and it's been rough. The application site is red, itchy and has been oozing. I had to take a few days off to let it calm down. Just be prepared for some intense skin reactions.
