I've just been prescribed Dilaudid 0.2mg/ml Pf Inj, 1ml for severe pain management. I'm a bit concerned about the side effects listed, such as breathing difficulties, hallucinations, and serotonin syndrome. Has anyone had experience with this medication? What were your side effects, and how did you manage them?

I'm curious to know if anyone has experienced long-term effects like hormonal changes? I've read about decreased interest in sex and fertility problems. Are these common?

This is my first time using opioids for pain management, so I want to be as prepared as possible. Any advice or insights are greatly appreciated.

I've never had side effects from opioids that were serious. Just stay in close contact with your doctor so they can monitor your progress. It's nothing to be too worried about, they can adjust your dose if it's too high.

How long have you been prescribed it? Mine was prescribed to me as a discharge and was told to look out for difficulty breathing especially, and to stay hydrated.

Don't forget about the other side effects. I had severe constipation and stomach pain. It was miserable. Luckily, my doctor was able to adjust my dose and add some medication to help with the constipation. It made a world of difference.

I had a friend who was on Dilaudid for a long time. It really messed with her hormones. She had issues with her menstrual cycle and even had trouble conceiving. Just be aware that long-term use can have those sorts of effects. It's something to talk to your doctor about if you're planning on staying on it for a while.

I'm not sure if Dilaudid will make you feel sleepy and dizzy but I do know that it can cause severe constipation.

I was on Dilaudid for a while after surgery. The constipation was brutal, but other than that, it managed my pain well. Make sure to stay hydrated and consider a stool softener if your doctor approves.

I know someone who had a bad experience with Dilaudid. They started experiencing extreme dizziness and confusion. It was scary. Make sure to have someone with you when you first start taking it, just in case something like that happens.

Opioids can be a lifesaver for severe pain, but they're not without risks. Be especially careful if you're taking other medications that could interact with Dilaudid, and always follow your doctor's instructions to the letter. Serotonin syndrome is no joke, so read up on the symptoms and be aware of the signs. Keep an eye out for changes in heart rate, difficulty breathing, and especially fever.

I was prescribed Dilaudid for post-surgical pain. The pain management was excellent, but I had to deal with some nasty side effects. I experienced severe constipation, dizziness, and a bit of nausea. My doctor gave me a supplemental medication but if I could do it over, I would probably opt for a different opioid. Talk to your doctor about potential alternatives and make sure to cover all of your bases.
