I was recently prescribed Calcium Gluconate 10% Inj, 100ml for emergency situations. I got some time to prepare and I want to know if anyone has had experience with this. What would I be looking for? I know it is used for increasing calcium levels and treating emergencies, but what are the possible side effects I should watch out for? Any advice on dealing with symptoms or knowing when to go to the hospital would be great. Thanks!

I had a family member who had a severe reaction to it including chest tightness and swelling. It's scary stuff. Definitely familiarize yourself with the urgent side effects and call your doctor if they happen.

My friend who's a doctor had to help a patient with this. She had to do CPR on the spot because the patient almost died from a severe allergic reaction.

I've had this before and it's important to monitor for high calcium levels. I had some constipation which got pretty uncomfortable.

This is an interesting medication. If you have any questions or issues, call your doctor. People can react in different ways to drugs, so don't rely on what someone else says. This should be your attitude in any medical situation.

I was worried about side effects. But the constipation wasn't too bad for me. I was able to ask my doctor about other issues and they weren't concerning. So, I guess it was worth it.

Be prepared for the fact that the medication can cause flushing and a slow heart rate if administered too quickly. If you notice these symptoms or any other issues, immediately contact the medical staff.

Make sure the injection site doesn't have any swelling or redness. It can cause tissue damage it leaks out of the vein.
