Hey everyone, I've got Lidocaine 1.5% Inj, 1 Ampule coming my way for an upcoming procedure and I'm trying to get a grip on what to expect! It's a pretty intimidating list of side effects so I'm hoping to hear from some of you who've been there. How bad is the injection? Any tips for dealing with side effects? Should I worry about anything in particular? Here's a brief breakdown on what I've found so far:

How it works: Lidocaine blocks nerve signals to temporarily numb the area.

Urgent Side Effects:

  • Allergic reactions
  • Methemoglobinemia (rare but serious)
  • Acidosis
  • Other severe side effects (breathing difficulties, seizures, mood changes, etc.)

Injection-Specific Side Effects (if administered into the spine)

Additional Side Effects:

I'm really hoping to hear from people who've had this before, so I can get a better sense of what I'm in for. Thanks in advance, guys! πŸ™

I've had Lidocaine for a minor surgery. The only thing I noticed was a slight metallic taste in my mouth. Other than that, it was smooth sailing. Just make sure to follow your doctor's instructions and you should be fine.

I had Lidocaine for an epidural. I had a headache at the time and it made it worse. Also, the metallic taste is very strange. Make sure you let your doctor know of any pre-existing conditions.

I had Lidocaine for a minor surgery last year. The injection felt like a quick, sharp pinch. The worst part was the numbness, which felt like a constant tingling. I didn't experience any severe side effects, but I did feel a bit lightheaded afterwards. Make sure to rest afterwards and stay hydrated.

I've helped a friend who had to get spinal lidocaine for a medical procedure. They didn't have any major side effects, but they were warned about potential complications like loss of bladder or bowel control. They were also told to look out for any signs of allergic reaction.

I had it for a small procedure last year and had no issues other than some mild numbness. Drink plenty of fluids before and after the procedure. I was also told to avoid alcohol for 24 hours after, as it can interfere with how your body metabolizes the medication.

I had Lidocaine for a root canal. It was fine. My dentist said that the key to minimising discomfort is keeping your mouth open and not moving it.

Remember, Lidocaine is an amide local anesthetic so it can be broken down by your liver. If you have any liver issues, make sure your doctor knows about them. The numbing sensation can last for a few hours after the procedure, so you may need to take it easy that day and avoid eating on the side of your mouth where the injection was given - if it's that kind of procedure.

I've had it a few times for dental work. The injection sting isn't too bad, but the numbing sensation is pretty weird. Just relax and breathe through it. The side effects are rare, so don't worry too much about those.
