I've just been prescribed Lidocaine 1%/epine 1:100000 Inj, 30ml for an upcoming dental procedure. I've never had a local anesthetic before, and I'm a bit nervous. I know it's supposed to numb the area, but I'm wondering what to expect during and after the injection. How long does the numbing effect typically last? How long will the injection site stay red or swollen? Should I be worried about the side effects I've read about? Should I expect any other symptoms aside from slight discomfort from the injection? I don't want to be surprised. Anything helps. Thanks!

I’m no expert, but I think the redness and swelling should go away within a day or two. Take it easy and don’t stress about it. The numbing effect is great though. It's always fun to see how your face looks when it's all numb! Like a weird facial exercise.

Side effects are rare. However, it is always good to know what they are and what to do if you experience them. Also, I’d be more concerned about the actual procedure than the anesthetic. You'll be fine! Have you had the tooth pulled before? I get that that's a whole different worry.

Don’t worry about the side effects, they are rare. Lidocaine 1%/epine 1:100000 Inj, 30ml is super common and very safe. Be mindful of how you eat, as you might bite your tongue or cheek. I did that once, it was a lesson learned

Just a heads-up, you might feel a bit lightheaded or dizzy after the procedure. Take it easy for the rest of the day. Wouldn't want to fall over and mess up your numb face. Definitely take it easy if you feel anything like that. And, do not drive! That is super important.

I had this for a wisdom tooth extraction. The numbing lasted for about 4 hours, which was great for the procedure but a bit annoying afterward. I was careful not to bite my tongue or cheek, and it was fine. But I ate ice cream for dinner. The swelling and redness were minimal and gone by the next day. Worth it to avoid the pain of the procedure.

You should be fine, if you are really concerned, maybe ask your dentist if they can give you a numbing cream to apply to the injection site. Seems to really help me with the pinch of the needle.

I’ve had this before, and the only thing that bothered me was the numbness in my lip, which made drinking coffee challenging due to not being able to feel the temperature. Side effects are rare, so you probably won't have any issues. Just take it easy during the day.

I feel you on the nerves. Just remember, the injection itself is quick. Make sure to tell your dentist if you feel anything unusual or if the numbness doesn't wear off after a few hours. Never had side effects, and I've had it multiple times.
