I just got my 8-year-old son his first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine (the one for kids aged 6-11). I've heard a bit about the side effects, but I'm curious to know what others have experienced. The nurse told me most kids handle it pretty well, but I'm still anxious. Has anyone else's child had a reaction? What was it like? I want to be prepared for anything, but I also don't want to overreact if it's just a minor thing.

I had my kids vaccinated last week and they were both pretty tired for a day or two. I think that was the most noticeable thing. Both were back to normal after that, though.

Just had my kid vaccinated. So far, no issues that I can see. I'm just glad we got it taken care of. Now we can start to get back to normal!

My kid had no side effects! I think it might depend on the child and their immune system. They're all different, so try not to worry too much!

My son had a sore arm for a couple of days but otherwise felt fine. The nurse said this was pretty normal and nothing to worry about.

I work in a school and we've had a few kids come in with mild symptoms like headaches and feeling tired, but nothing serious. The kids seem to bounce back pretty quickly, too.

My daughter had a low-grade fever and was a bit irritable for a day, but she was back to normal the next day. It wasn't too bad, but I was glad I had the day off work to keep an eye on her.

Interesting thread. I read that the most common side effects were pain and swelling at the injection site, and a bit of fatigue. But, like you, I want to know how other parents are handling this new thing. I told us to avoid ibuprofen and tylenol ahead of time because it says not to take them before the vaccine in case of a reaction.

I heard some kids have had trouble sleeping after the vaccine. My friend's kid had a few nights of bad dreams. Keep an eye out for that, too.

Be prepared for some crying, too. Mine was especially unpleasant, but he's an empath and sensitive kid. I think he was picking up on my anxiety and it made him more anxious, so we have been careful to keep calm.
