Hey all, I was recently prescribed Pyridium 100mg Tablets for some urinary tract discomfort. I know it's supposed to help with the pain and burning, but I'm a bit confused about a few things. First off, I thought it was an antibiotic, but my doctor said it's not. How come? I'm worried about side effects I've read about online, and how long will it take to work? It sounds like it's just masking the symptoms. Any personal experiences or advice on managing the side effects would be awesome. Thanks!

I was prescribed Pyridium a few years ago for a nasty UTI. It definitely helped with the burning sensation, but it turned my pee orange! I was freaking out at first, but my doctor said it was normal. Just a heads up!

I know it's supposed to relieve the symptoms, but isn't there a risk of not knowing if the infection is getting worse? Because it masks the pain, won’t the infection just get worse?

What's the big deal with the side effects though? I took it for a week and didn't have any issues.

Never heard of this drug before, but it sounds like it might be worth trying.

I think the biggest risk is methemoglobinemia, a rare but serious condition where your blood can't carry oxygen properly. Symptoms include blue or gray discoloration of the skin and shortness of breath. It's really scary stuff, but most people won't experience it.

I've always been told to avoid taking meds unless absolutely necessary, but if you’re in pain, Pyridium seems like a good option. Just be sure to monitor your symptoms closely and finish any prescribed antibiotics.

I had Pyridium prescribed to me about a year ago, and honestly, I had no idea I was supposed to report side effects to the FDA. I didn't have any, but now I know better.

You should know that Pyridium is not an antibiotic, which means it won't cure the infection itself. It's just meant to relieve the symptoms while the antibiotics take care of the infection. It usually starts working within about 30 minutes to an hour. Although, it's important to finish your antibiotic course if you were prescribed one.

I would be careful with Pyridium. The side effects can be pretty severe. I had a friend who had an allergic reaction and ended up in the hospital. It's worth considering if it's really necessary to take it.
