I'm scheduled for surgery next week, and my doctor prescribed Ropivacaine 5mg/ml Inj, 20ml. I've read it's used for numbing, and it can be injected around nerves or given as an epidural. I'm a bit nervous about the side effects, especially the serious ones. Has anyone had experience with this? What should I expect during and after the procedure? Also, what kind of side effects did you experience and how long did they last? Anything I can do to prepare or minimize them?

I got this for a hernia repair. Felt a bit dizzy and had some numbness, but otherwise, it was a smooth experience.

I had an epidural with Ropivacaine for my childbirth. It worked perfectly, and the only side effect I had was difficulty urinating for a few hours after the procedure. Just prepare for that, and you'll be fine.

I've had Ropivacaine twice for different surgeries. Both times, I had some back pain and a bit of nausea, but nothing major. I had a mild allergic reaction the second time, but the doctors handled it well. Make sure your medical team is aware of any allergies you have, even if they seem minor. The medical team will probably give you some medication beforehand to counteract any possible side effects, so don't stress too much about it.

I'm a nurse and I've seen a few cases where patients had methemoglobinemia, which can be serious. The patient had a blueish discoloration in the lips, so if you see anything like that, notify your doctor immediately.

Seriously, if you start feeling weird or the numbing doesn't seem right, talk to your doctor. It's better to be cautious, especially with stuff like this.

I had it for a knee surgery. The numbing effect wore off pretty quickly afterward, but I felt fine. Just a bit of nausea, but nothing too bad so I was expecting.
