I've been struggling with migraines for years and my doctor just prescribed Tosymra 10mg Nasal Spray. I've tried pills before, but the nausea and vomiting were brutal, so I'm hoping this nasal spray will work better. Has anyone else used Tosymra? How long does it take to work? Any tips for using a nasal spray effectively or avoiding side effects? Is there anything I should know before I start using it? Here's some info from the doctor about the medication

My doctor explained a lot of the same side-effects when he prescribed it to me. I remember him saying to watch out for intense abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea, but I never had any of that. I did notice a weird change in taste for a while, but it went away after a few days.

I've used Tosymra before and it worked really well for me. I would say it usually took about 10-15 minutes to start feeling relief. Make sure to spray it correctly, you need to blow your nose first, and then spray it into one nostril while covering the other. Wait a few seconds and repeat in the other nostril. Anyways - I never had any side effects, but be careful, they can happen.

What a relief that you are trying a new med. I've heard that nasal sprays can be a game-changer for some people. I hope it works for you! Be careful about the side effects! Good luck!

Wow, that sounds scary. I've had migraines since I was a kid. I can't stop gawking at this thread - so many side effects I didnt know about.

Ouch! Have you considered keeping a migraine diary? It helped me figure out my triggers and better manage my symptoms. I've found the triggers can change over time. Hopefully the nasal spray does it for you.

I tried Tosymra and it worked faster than any other migraine medication I've used, but I had some serious side effects. I got pretty severe dizziness and my vision was messed up for a couple of hours. It was so bad and disorienting that I had to go to the hospital. I wish they would have told me about these side effects before. I would be careful with it, I am just glad it was no worse than it was.

This is a great thread for anyone who suffers from migraines! If you are taking any other meds, tell your doc as soon as possible. There is a risk of developing serotonin syndrome, especially when taking certain other medications. Get to a doctor immediately if your temperature gets too high, you start hallucinating, or if you have fever, vomiting, or changes in balance.

There was a study a while back talking about a link between these kinds of nasal sprays and brain blood vessel problems. I don’t want to be alarmist, but it’s something to be aware of. If you start feeling any weird symptoms, like trouble speaking or sudden weakness on one side of your body, get to a doctor ASAP. If you notice extreme fatigue, changes in eyesight or vision problems, or pain in parts of the body you've never experienced before, don't wait to be out of commission to see a neurologist.

Never used Tosymra, but I've had great luck with nasal sprays for allergies. Just make sure to keep your head tilted back when you spray it, and try not to inhale too deeply right after. I had a friend who used a nasal spray for migraines and they said they felt a little dizzy at first, but it was worth it for the relief.
