I just got the Skyla IUD inserted today and I'm curious about what others have experienced. How long did it take for your body to adjust? Did you have any unusual side effects? I've heard that spotting can be common, but what about other issues? Also, how long did it take for your periods to become lighter? Any tips on managing the cramping and spotting would be greatly appreciated!

Every time I got hungry while I had the Skyla IUD I would eat and it would fix the cramps. I thought I was crazy, but it worked every time. The best part was that I didn't have to use tampons anymore.

I loved the Skyla. The worst part was the insertion. After the first month I was good to go.

I had a bit of spotting for the first month but nothing crazy. I got the IUD inserted in the morning, but the cramps were so bad I had to take the afternoon off from work. Drink plenty of water and use a heating pad if you can.

I know it's a long time to go between appointments but when I got the strings checked it actually felt good! My period got lighter faster than I expected.

Hot take: The IUD strings can drive you crazy. I kept forgetting they were there and would freak out every time I felt them. Also, my partner didn't like the feeling at all, so we had to figure out alternative positions. Just a heads up!

Be prepared for some serious cramps. I was in pain for about a week after insertion, but it was manageable with ibuprofen. Also, my periods became lighter and shorter within the first 3 months.

My doctor said that the insertion was supposed to feel like bad period cramps. I called her to complain and she told me I was a champ for sticking it out. The pain took about 48 hours to completely subside. I had spotting for the entire first month.

Not to scare you or anything, but I ended up with a UTI after getting the Skyla. The doctor said it might have been from the insertion, but either way, it was a nasty experience.

I had the Skyla IUD for about a year and a half. The insertion was quite painful, but the cramping and spotting subsided after a few months. My periods became lighter and shorter, which was a huge plus for me. Just be prepared for some irregular spotting in the first few months.

I've had the Skyla for about 2 years now. The first few months were tough with cramping and spotting, but after that, it's been smooth sailing. My periods are much lighter, and I don't have to worry about pregnancy for the next year and a half. Totally worth it.
