I've been prescribed Xylocaine-MPf 1% Inj, 30ml for some minor surgery I have coming up. I've never had this before and I'm a bit nervous. It's supposed to be a local anesthetic, but the list of possible side effects is quite concerning. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you have any issues? I don't really understand what methemoglobinemia is and why that's bad. The FDA website is pretty scary, but maybe that's just to cover their bases. I'm hoping to hear from anyone who has been through this.

I've had lidocaine a bunch of times for dental work. It worked great every time. No issues, no problems. Just make sure your doctor is experienced with it. That's the most important part.

Lidocaine is a local anesthetic. It prevents pain. But it doesn't stop you from moving around. It also doesn't stop you from being awake during the procedure. It just prevents pain. Don't worry about the side effects. The doctors will make sure you're okay before administering the shot.

I've had Xylocaine before for dental work. It was fine, no issues. Just felt numb for a few hours. Don't worry too much about the side effects, I've never even heard of half of them.

Just make sure you're telling your doctor about every medication you're taking. Lidocaine can interact with other drugs, and that can cause problems. Just be open and honest with your doctor.

Methemoglobinemia is a condition where the blood can't carry oxygen properly, and that can lead to serious tissue damage and even death. Lidocaine can cause this in certain people, but it's very rare. It's good to be aware, but try not to dwell on it.

Why would you get this shot? It doesn't work. I didn't even feel the pain!

What kind of surgery are you having? Mild reactions are very likely, but only in the worst cases will you have a serious reaction. Don't worry about the side effects. If you have a reaction, you will get treated.
