Just prescribed Amoxicillin 400mg/5ml Susp 100ml for my kid's ear infection. Any advice?
I've just been prescribed Amoxicillin 400mg/5ml Susp 100ml for my kid's ear infection. The doctor said it's a common antibiotic but I'm a bit worried, especially about the severe side effects. Has anyone else had experience with this medication? I'm curious about the mild and common side effects because while the urgent ones are rare, I'd like to be prepared. Thank you!

My doctor said diarrhea was common but mostly mild. Just keep an eye on it, and make sure they stay hydrated. Give them probiotics to help with the gut flora. We gave him yogurt or kefer. Also, I lost my doctor's number. My 8 year old got diarrhea and has been going every 20 minutes or so. It's been going on for 12 hours. Should I take him to the ER? Thanks.
Be careful, the liquid form can be super messy. I spilled a whole bottle on the counter once. Also, it tastes like garbage to kids. I had to give it with a treat to get my son to take it
Gastrointestinal symptoms were common, and one of mine had severe stomach pain. Not sure if it was related to the amoxicillin, but she was miserable for the first 3 or 4 days.
The first time I took amoxicillin I had to stop taking it because I was having a bad reaction, I was dizzy and in pain. I've had no problems with it since. I think it was a weird reaction but it wasn't worth it to take it again.
I've heard it's important to avoid dairy while taking this. I have no idea if it's true or not. Just thought I'd mention it; might be worth asking the doctor about. Actually, I just looked it up and it's not true. Nevermind.
Amoxicillin is a pretty common antibiotic. I'm sure your kid will be fine. Just keep an eye out for the serious side effects, and don't worry too much about the mild ones. If you're really concerned, call your doctor.
