Hey folks, my pediatrician just prescribed Amoxicillin 400mg/5ml Susp 75ml for my kid's ear infection. I've given antibiotics to my kids before but not this specific one. I know it's a common antibiotic to treat bacterial infections like ear infections, strep throat, pneumonia, and skin infections but I want to know what to watch out for. I've read the possible side effects, especially the serious ones like allergic reactions and C. diff-associated diarrhea. Has anyone else given this to their kids? Any tips or tricks to get them to take it? Thanks in advance, everyone!

Tough to get probiotic gummies to my kid. Used strawberry for the flavor and I’ve heard of a texture issue, actually used a bit of his favorite drink to mix. If you’re concerned, check with the doc if it’s a big concern but it stayed down just fine.

I had a weird reaction to amoxicillin once. Itchy skin, hives, and incredibly tired. I can take it now tho. So, it could be a little different for everyone.

My kid's doctor suggested giving it with food to minimize stomach upset. Also, if you notice any unusual bruising or bleeding, get it checked out. It could be a sign of something more serious.

My kid hates the taste. I mix it with a bit of chocolate syrup. Makes it go down easier and he doesn’t seem to notice the flavor that much.

My kid had some diarrhea but it wasn't too bad. Just keep an eye on their stool. If it gets really watery or bloody, call the doc. Also, probiotics can help with the tummy troubles.

Mix it with a bit of applesauce or yogurt. Makes it easier to take and might help with the stomach upset. Also, make sure to shake it well before giving it to your kid.

I've never had issues with Amoxicillin before, but a kid I babysit for broke out in hives after taking it. Again, just need to be aware of any weird symptoms.

I’m a nursing student and a friend’s kid was taking this for a bacterial infection. They noticed some signs like a rash and a fever, as well as stomach issues. They went to the doctor and the doc said it was a possible reaction. It is real and its not something you want to mess around with. Go to the doctor if you notice anything like that.

I've given this to my kids a few times. It's pretty standard. Just make sure they finish the entire course even if they seem better. Also, mix it with a bit of their favorite juice to make it easier to go down.
