I just picked up a prescription for Keflex 125mg/5ml Susp 200ml for my 5-year-old who has an ear infection. The doctor said it's a common antibiotic for kids, but I'm a bit worried about the side effects. Has anyone else given this to their child? How did it go? Any tips on how to get them to take it? I'm really hoping it works quickly, but I'm also a bit nervous about the possible side effects like diarrhea and allergic reactions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm a pharmacy tech and we see this prescribed a lot. Just make sure to follow the instructions and call the doctor if you see any worrying side effects.

Don't worry, it's a pretty common antibiotic and most kids do fine with it. Just keep an eye out for any signs of a bad reaction, it's rare, but better safe than sorry.

Kids don't have to take it if it's too hard. If it's too hard to give them it, just stop. It's not worth the fight.

My child had a pretty bad rash from this. Definitely a severe allergic reaction and was scary.

My pediatrician gave us a lot of tips when our son was on this. They said to watch out for signs of an allergic reaction, rinse out the mouth and brush his teeth each time to prevent thrush and inform them if anything changes in his stools.

I gave this to my daughter last year for a similar issue and it worked well. Just make sure to finish the whole course even if symptoms go away. Also mix it with a bit of juice to make it taste better. No side effects for her.

I had to give this to my daughter a few times. Honestly the worst part was getting her to take it, and having to mix it in juice to mask the taste.
