I was just prescribed Penicillin Vk 500mg for a stubborn ear infection. I haven't taken this before and the pharmacist gave me a long list of possible side effects. Has anyone else taken this? What was your experience like? I'm a bit nervous about the allergic reactions and diarrhea mentioned in the leaflet.

Be really careful if you have any allergies. My cousin had a crazy reaction to penicillin once, ended up in the ER. Not fun. Also, watch out for those diarrhea bits. My doctor told me you can get a yeast infection if you have a yeast imbalance.

Just want to chime in and say—avoid dairy while taking antibiotics! I learned that the hard way. It makes the medicine less effective. I had to stop drinking milk, but it worked out.

I’ve taken Penicillin Vk a few times for skin infections. It always worked, but I always get that nasty, metallic taste in my mouth. It’s not the worst side effect, but it’s definitely annoying. I just chug some water and deal with it.

I had a pretty bad case of CDAD a few years back from antibiotics. Definitely not fun. If you start feeling any major stomach issues, don't wait, just go to the doctor right away.

Penicillin Vk is great for bacterial infections, but yeah, the side effects can be nasty. I had some stomach upset, but nothing too bad. Just make sure to finish the entire course, even if you feel better. Otherwise, the infection can come back.

My kid had to take this for an ear infection and had a rashes. Not really a lot of fun, but luckily no allergic reaction. The worst part was the upset stomach, just felt icky. But it worked and she felt better in a few days.

I've taken it a few times for strep throat. Never had any issues, but my friend got that black, hairy tongue thing. Gross, but doc said it was no big deal.

Penicillin is old school but it is effective. Just make sure to read the warnings about allergic reactions and report any odd symptoms to your doctor. Also, avoid alcohol while taking antibiotics, just in general.

Always make sure to take the full course even if you feel better. I stopped taking it once because I felt better and the infection came roaring back. Plus, I actually had some diarrhea this time, but I think it might be because I didn't drink enough water. Make sure you stay hydrated!

I had to take this for a strep throat once. I ended up with a yeast infection. Doc said it was because the antibiotics wiped out my good bacteria. It was no fun. The antibiotic worked on my throat but the worst part was dealing with the yeast infection.
