I've just been prescribed Polymyxin-B/trimethoprim Ophth Sol for a bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye). I started using it today, but I'm a bit nervous about the side effects, especially the severe ones. My doctor reassured me that they are rare, but I can't shake off the anxiety. Has anyone else used this medication? What was your experience like? Any tips on how to manage the mild side effects (like burning or stinging) or the medication in general? What has your experience with the FDA's side effects reporting been? I want to be prepared and know what to expect. Thanks in advance for any insights!

I had a friend who had to stop using it because of an allergic reaction. If you see any signs, it’s best to seek medical help ASAP. As an optometrist, I would say, you're likely safe, but if you have any reason to believe you're having a problem, better just go get checked out

I'm an Optometrist, and while rare, some folks will have a severe reaction to this. Just be aware of the signs so you can catch it early. If you start swelling up, go straight to the ER. Don't wait. Once you have the swelling, if you go to an ER, you should be able to get better in about 24 hours. And you don't want to be having these kinds of problems with your eyes.

I'm dealing with the same thing right now. Any update on your situation? How are you feeling? I'm on day 3 and it's still pretty uncomfortable.

This is my second infection from these drops. You can add to your list of side effects, you might end up with a lice infestation. Just make sure you kill the source, or the infection will keep coming back.

I've never had an allergic reaction, but I've never had itchiness and eyelid swelling - that would be a red flag for me. I'd say you're fine, but just keep an eye on it - no pun intended.

I used this for my pink eye last year. The burning sensation was annoying, but it got better after a few days. Just stick with it as prescribed. And if you experience any of the urgent side effects, don't wait – go to the ER right away.

Glad to know it can work for some. I tried it, and the burning was so bad I felt like my eye was on fire. I had to stop using it. I'd say stick with it and see if it gets better, but if you're feeling like your eye is in a volcano of fire, just stop.

I've had the eye drops before, and I’ve also had them used on my kid. Not sure which was worse, the burning sensation or my kid screaming and crying. But definitely worth it and no major side effects. Any updates on your eye infection?
