I'm scheduled for an MRI soon, and the doctor ordered a Prohance injection to help with the imaging. I've read about the potential side effects, but I'm curious if anyone has recent experiences to share. How did you handle the injection and any side effects? Any tips for making the MRI experience less stressful? Also, does anyone know if there are any alternatives worth exploring? Thank you for any help!

I've heard some people suggest taking Benadryl before the MRI to help with any potential allergic reactions. Has anyone tried this?

I've had a few MRIs with Prohance, and I've never had any serious side effects. Just a slight metallic taste in my mouth afterward. Drinking plenty of water before and after the scan helped a lot. Don't forget to stay hydrated!

I get nervous just thinking about injections. How bad is the Prohance injection compared to a regular flu shot?

I had no idea that contrast agents could cause kidney problems. That's scary stuff. I'm glad they're monitoring my kidney function before and after the MRI.

I had Prohance for my MRI last year. The injection itself was quick and didn't hurt much, but I did feel a bit warm and flushed immediately after. It passed quickly, though. The contrast made the images much clearer, and the doctor was able to diagnose my issue promptly. No major side effects for me.

I had a bad reaction to Prohance a few years back. I developed hives and had trouble breathing. It was terrifying, and I had to be treated with epinephrine. Since then, I've had to use a different contrast agent for MRIs. If you have any history of allergies, make sure to discuss this with your doctor beforehand. You can also ask about gadolinium-based agents. Some of them, like the contrast agent I use now (Gadoteridol) have a lower risk of allergic reactions.

I worked as an MRI technician for a while. The key to a good experience is staying calm and communicating with the techs. They're there to help! Also, if you're feeling claustrophobic, let them know. They can give you a mirror so you can see out of the machine.

I had an MRI with Prohance and had constant headaches for about 24 hours. I was not a fan. I started getting MRI scans for my back, the doctor said the contrast dye is better for seeing things in detail.
