I was just prescribed Azithromycin 500mg through an IV for pneumonia. I've never had an IV antibiotic before, so I'm not sure what to expect. The doctor said it's important to complete the full course of treatment, but I'm a bit nervous about the potential side effects. Has anyone else had experience with this? Any tips or personal stories would be greatly appreciated! Also, I want to know if anyone had to go to the hospital with a severe side effect and how they handled that.

I had Azithromycin IV for a severe bacterial infection. It was a bit uncomfortable, but the nurse was great. Just make sure to finish the course even if you feel better.

I barely had any side effects. I was lucky, but I know people who had a harder time. Just finish the course and you should be good.

I got really dizzy and had to sit down for a while. It was weird but I felt fine after an hour or so. Just take it easy for a bit.

I had a really fast heartbeat, but it was just an anxiety from the medication more than anything else. Make sure to call your doctor, but it might not be anything serious.

I had a really bad reaction to it though, my skin was peeling and I was burning up with a fever. I went to the ER and they treated me with steroids. If you get any symptoms like that, GO TO THE ER
