Hi everyone, I recently had to get an IV drip of Dextrose 5%/Nacl 0.45% Inj, 250ml due to dehydration and low blood sugar. I'm curious about the potential side effects I should be prepared for. What can I expect, and what symptoms should I watch out for? Anyone have personal experiences to share?

I swear my IV drips always make my hands and feet swell up. I think I'm sensitive to the sodium or something.

Watch out for the needle! I got a bruise that stayed for a week. The IV itself was fine, just be careful with the insertion part.

If you start feeling bad, let your doctor know right away. I had a reaction once and felt feverish and dizzy. It was scary, but the doctor stopped the infusion immediately and treated it.

I've had IV drip for some serious dehydration, and I always had severe dizziness, but only because of the dehydration problem I told my doctor to correct

Dehydration is no joke! IV drip is a lifesaver. Staying hydrated and maintaining proper electrolyte balance is crucial, especially when you can't take in fluids orally. Always listen to your healthcare provider's advice.

I've had this before - it's generally well-tolerated but keep an eye out for any signs of infection or allergic reaction at the injection site. If you feel dizzy, it might be a sign of electrolyte imbalances.

Side effects are generally rare, but always be cautious. If you experience severe symptoms like swelling, rash, or trouble breathing, seek help immediately. It's better to be safe.

I've never heard of anyone needing emergency medical attention for an IV drip, are we talking about 250 mL or something massive? In my experience, this is given for mild dehydration, nothing more.

I have also experienced the dizziness. It's not always a bad sign, but it's worth mentioning to your doctor so they can monitor your electrolytes appropriately and potentially adjust the fluid composition.

Yeah, watch out for temperature issues too. I got really cold during the infusion.
