I've been prescribed Boniva 150mg Tabs (Ibandronate) for osteoporosis after a recent diagnosis, and I've started taking the 3-month supply. I want to reduce the risk of fractures, and my doctor says this will help strengthen my bones. I'm a bit scared of the potential side effects, especially the serious ones like jawbone problems or allergic reactions. I've read the list of side effects, but I'd love to hear from others who have been taking this medication. What have your experiences been? Have you had any issues, and if so, how did you deal with them? Any advice on managing these side effects or general tips for taking this medication would be greatly appreciated.

I've used Boniva for a while. Make sure you're taking it correctly. I swallowed it with some water and did not lie down for a while after, and I did not have a problem with it. It's an important routine for the medicine to work.

I had a friend who had a severe allergic reaction to Boniva. She ended up in the hospital. It's rare, but it can happen. Make sure you're aware of the signs and seek immediate medical attention.

Be very careful if you have any dental work coming up. I had to wait until my bone density was stable before I could get implants. I wish I would have known that before I started Boniva.

I've been on Boniva for a year now, and it's been great for my bone density. I didn't experience any serious side effects, just some minor stomach issues, but they went away over time. Make sure you take it with plenty of water, and don't lie down for at least 30 minutes afterward.

I've been taking Boniva for a couple of months now and I'm feeling good but also wondering if I should optimize my calcium and vitamin D levels in parallel, as well?

I was really nervous about the jawbone issues, but my doctor assured me that with regular check-ups and good oral hygiene, the risk is minimal. Just be sure to keep up with all your dental appointments. Who else is paranoid about it?

I switch to an annual infusion of a medication in the same class. I was not very organized so, I still think my bones get the same protection, but without remembering to take a pill every week.

I experienced muscle cramps at first. They were mild but annoying. I was able to manage them with a magnesium supplement and increasing my calcium intake. It was a small inconvenience that I could live with, but I think it was worth it. It improved my bone density.

I had a bad experience with Boniva. I had severe heartburn and it was difficult to swallow it. I switched to a different bisphosphonate and it's been better for me. I'd recommend trying this first before switching to Boniva, just be careful.
