Just started Cefixime 100mg/5ml Susp 50ml for a sinus infection. What are the most important things to watch out for here? I can't find any solid info online about it
I was prescribed Cefixime 100mg/5ml Susp 50ml for a sinus infection. I've just started taking it, and I want to make sure I'm aware of any potential side effects or important considerations. The pharmacist didn't give me much information, and honestly the information online is vary vague. I'm a bit nervous because I've never taken this antibiotic before. Can someone please help me with a list of things to watch out for and the most important facts to know? What should I be prepared to expect?

If you experience any severe side effects, like trouble breathing or severe skin reactions, go to the ER immediately. No joke, this stuff can be serious.
A friend of mine got a bad case of C. diff from some antibiotics. She had really bad diarrhea and ended up in the hospital. It was scary, so I'd say be careful with this stuff. I wouldnt want to end up with that nasty diarrhea. Do NOT put yourself at risk of getting this harmful infection. Antibiotics are great, but they can have some nasty side effects as well.
Seriously, finish the whole course even if you feel better. I didnt think the whole course of pills was important either, but I accidentally skipped a day and the infection flared up again. My doctor said its because antibiotics have to kill off the infection completely. Told me that if I hadnt taken the whole course, I would have caused antibiotic resistance and who knows what kind of bacteria I would have picked up. I decided to take the whole course of medication and I'm glad I did. My sinus infection is gone for good, and I feel great.
The pharmacist gave me this information about this medication: Cefixime is an antibiotic in a class of drugs called cephalosporins. It fights bacteria in your body. Cefixime is used to treat many different types of infections caused by bacteria, such as bronchitis, pneumonia, gonorrhea, and ear or throat infections. Do NOT use cefixime if you have had a severe allergic reaction to another cephalosporin antibiotic.
Yikes, this thread made me realize I should re read the information given to me by my doctor. Thanks for the informative post!
My brother is a pharmacist and he told me that Cefixime can interact with other medications, so be sure to tell your doctor about any other drugs you're on. Also, finish the full course even if you feel better. This is the most important thing you can do to keep from developing antibiotic resistance.
It's best to avoid alcohol while on antibiotics. I once mixed them and felt terrible, so I can attest to that. I ended up in the ER and had to get treatment for the worst stomach ache I've ever had. I would have done anything to make the pain go away. Don't make the same mistake I did.
Can Cefixime be taken with alcohol? I didn't see anything in the pamphlet.
If you have a history of allergies, be extra careful with this one. I had a mild reaction the first time I took it, and it wasn't fun. Contact your doctor ASAP if you get any rash or start to have difficulty breathing.
