I was recently diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer and my doctor has prescribed Gemcitabine 2gm/52.6ml Inj, 1 Vial. This will be my first time receiving chemotherapy, so I'm a bit nervous and would appreciate any advice or shared experiences from others who have been through this. I've read about the possible side effects, especially the urgent ones. I'm wondering how many people actually experience serious side effects, and if there are any tips for managing the other ones. I will be getting the injection into my vein, but any advice on that procedure would be helpful. My doctor mentioned that this medication works by interfering with the growth of cancer cells, which are then destroyed by the body, but I'm curious about the specifics of how it works and if there are any alternatives. Lastly, I want to know if there are any resources or support groups for pancreatic cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

This sounds scary, and I'm sorry you're going through this. But you're strong and can handle anything that comes your way. Nausea and vomiting can be managed with medication, and hair loss can be covered with hats or wigs.

I've never been through this, but I had a friend whose mom went through this for ovarian cancer, and she had some bad reactions. She had to go to the hospital a few times because of side effects. I hope everything goes well for you, but try not to push your body too hard. You might need to let others help you out, and that's okay.

I had a friend who was on Gemcitabine, and he had serious kidney problems. It wasn't fun, but he made it through. The doctor monitored his kidney function closely the whole time, so make sure that is part of your care plan.

My mom went through this for breast cancer. The mouth sores were the worst, but she said mixing baking soda and water to rinse her mouth helped a ton. Also, she said the doctor gave her a steroid to help with nausea and vomiting, and it worked very well.

It is important to note that due to its side effects, Gemcitabine is often given in combination with other drugs, such as cisplatin, to enhance its effectiveness and reduce the severity of the side effects. If you're concerned about the side effects, it might be worth speaking to your doctor before starting the treatment. It's also important to note that some of the side effects, such as hair loss, can be managed with additional treatments or medications, however, they are not always necessary. Everyone's experience with chemotherapy is different, so don't worry too much about what you might experience.

I wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery. I've heard Gemcitabine is tough, but it's also effective in many cases. Fight on, and always communicate with your medical team.

I know how scary this can be, but remember, you're not alone. There are many support groups out there for pancreatic cancer patients. They can be a great source of information, advice, and emotional support. Just make sure to communicate openly with your healthcare team about any side effects or concerns you have. They are there to help you.

I'm not a doctor, but I've heard that some people have success with acupuncture to help with the side effects of chemo. Something to consider maybe? Good luck, and stay strong!

I was on Gemcitabine for lung cancer. The flu-like symptoms and fatigue were rough, but manageable. My advice? Stay hydrated, rest when you need to, and keep a positive mindset. You got this!

I've seen a lot of people have experiences with neuropathy with this drug. I hear that some doctors recommend starting on a lower dose to reduce this risk. Also, I hope you have a good team supporting you through this. It makes a huge difference in your outlook and in keeping you strong.
