I started the Taperdex 7-Day Pak for my severe asthma flare-up. I know Dexamethasone is a steroid, so I'm expecting some side effects. What was your experience like? Did you have any serious side effects? How long did they last? And what did you do to cope while they were happening? I'm feeling a bit worried, but I need to manage my symptoms, so I am trying to keep a positive outlook. Any tips on navigating this weekly regiment? Also, does anyone know if it’s okay to drink coffee while on this medication?

I’ve used it for my arthritis and the worst side effect was insomnia. I had to take it in the morning to avoid staying up all night. Definitely avoid it if you can’t sleep!

Stay off the Dex if you can avoid it, but if you need it. Just remember it’s rough but bearable. Try and take it early so you can work through the side effects during the day and sleep through it at night.

It's worth it if it helps your asthma, but be prepared for the side effects. Just keep in mind that they should go away once you stop taking it. Drink lots of water and maybe even eat some ice cream if you have cravings. It will help for the throat and will keep you hydrated.

I had to deal with restless leg syndrome. It was like walking on hot coals at night, my legs felt like they were on fire. I ended up having to sleep in a recliner.

I worked at a pharmacy for 5 years and I saw a lot of people on Dexamethasone. The most common complaint was mood changes—everyone was overly emotional. Also, watch out for weight gain and increased appetite. It’s crazy how much you can eat.

I felt like a zombie on it. Dizziness and fatigue were bad, but not as bad as the weight gain. I gained like 10 lbs in a week. Make sure you have a plan for how you’ll lose the weight afterward.

Coffee is generally fine, but just keep an eye on it. Some people can handle it, and some it can make their tremors from the medication worse.

I had some crazy dreams while on this stuff. I remember thinking I was in a video game because of how vivid it was. Just be aware of that.

Definitely be careful with your diet. The increase in appetite is crazy real. I ended up eating way too many snacks.
