I've just started taking Rebetol 200mg Capsules as part of my treatment plan for chronic hepatitis C. My doctor assured me that it's a powerful medication that will help stop the virus from multiplying, but the side effects list is quite frightening. I'm especially worried about anemia. I was told that regular blood tests will be required because it can affect your red blood cells. Has anyone else taken Rebetol, and what was your experience? Here are a few questions I have. How can you tell if the flu-like symptoms are from the medication or just a cold? My doctor said it's important to stay hydrated, but how much water should I be drinking each day?

Stay strong. The side effects are tough, but they're temporary. I found that focusing on the end goal—getting rid of the virus—helped me push through. Remember, you're not alone. There are support groups and forums where you can share your experiences and get advice.

I had to take it with interferon and the side effects were brutal. I would say that the mental changes were the scariest. It's important to have support. Make sure to tell your family and friends about the mental changes you could experience.

I had a strange ' metallic' taste in my mouth. I found that chewing gum (sugar free) helped. I also tried to keep a food journal to see what caused nausea. It really helped to stay on top of things.

Rebetol is tough, but it's worth it if it helps with the hepatitis. I had some bad flu-like symptoms and anemia but my doctor managed it well.

I had a tough time with the side effects, especially the hair loss and fatigue. But my doctor reassured me that it would improve once I was off the medication. I also found that eating smaller, more frequent meals helped with the nausea.

I haven't taken Rebetol, but my mom did. She said the flu-like symptoms were definitely the worst. She took it with some other antiviral drugs and it helped as well.

I almost gave up on it because the side effects were so bad, but my doctor encouraged me to stick with it. Once my treatment was done, I felt so much better. The side effects really weren't bad once they were gone. But man, were they bad while I was taking it.

I managed the anemia with some iron supplements and regular blood tests. Also, be prepared for the weight loss. It's normal, but you need to make sure you're eating enough.

Ok, that is a little scary, but I really hope it works out for you. I had a friend that was on Rebetol and she did great after a few months and she said it was worth it. Keep us posted with how you're feeling!

Staying hydrated is crucial. I aimed for at least 8-10 glasses of water a day. Also, listen to your body and rest when you need to.
