I've been prescribed Lactulose 20gm Oral Sol Packets to manage my constipation, and it's been a rollercoaster. On one hand, it's a godsend for regularity, but on the other, the side effects can be brutal. I've dealt with burping and stomach cramps, but I'm worried about the more serious side effects like high blood sugar and allergic reactions. I'm supposed to take it daily so the same issue isn't going to resolve itself. Has anyone else experienced this? How do you manage the side effects? Or am I missing something about how to take it?

I started out using glycerin suppositories instead but they stopped working. I was hoping to find something else that could help. It looks like we're all in the same boat: trying to find the right solution to keep things moving smoothly.

I had to stop taking it because the gas was unbearable. This is why allergies or food sensitivities can make drug side effects more unpredictable. Even something seemingly harmless like lactulose can cause problems if you are susceptible. Have you talked to your doctor about switching to something else?

I've had high blood sugar issues before, and it was scary, but I doubt I'll need to worry about that from a sugar based medication.

I've actually had a pretty good experience with Lactulose. It's true that it can cause some discomfort, but for me, the benefits far outweigh the downsides. If the side effects are really bad, maybe try adjusting the dosage or the timing of when you take it. I take it at night before bed and it's worked for me.

I had diarrhoea after the first dose; how did I know it was actually the drug? I never experienced that again but it was scary the first time but I ended up getting used to it. If you have any doubts, consult the doctor.

I've read that some people use it for liver issues. Anyone here using it for that purpose? It's amazing to me that one drug can help with so many different things

I used a similar medication and have a tip: Keep track of your bowel movements and side effects in a journal. This way, you can show your doctor exactly what's been happening. It might help them adjust your treatment plan.
