I've been prescribed Levonorgestrel/ethinyl EST 90-20mcg for birth control, and while it's been effective, I'm a bit worried about the potential side effects. The medication is taken daily to prevent pregnancy and it's supposed to reduce menstral bleeding. But I've heard horror stories from friends about unexpected side effects, and the list of possible complications is quite long. I've even heard doctors say they recommend other types of birth control, but didn't offer alternatives. Some of my friends have shared concerns about sudden onset of migraines and depression. I know these are rare, but I want to be prepared. Has anyone else experienced issues with this medication? What should I do if I notice anything alarming? Are there alternative birth control options I should consider?

I've been on this pill for about 6 months and I've noticed some changes in my period, but nothing too bad. My biggest concern is the potential for high blood pressure, but thankfully I haven't had any issues with that. I do wish I knew more about my personal risk factors for these side effects, but it’s hard to say. Consider talking to your doctor to get a full blood panel and get a baseline on your blood pressure, cholesterol, and other tests.

I've heard that some people experience weight gain or loss, but I didn't experience this. I think it's important to remember that everyone's body is different, and what works for one person might not work for another. I agree with the other commenters—if you experience anything unusual, talk to your doctor.

I've been on birth control pills for years and have never had any serious side effects. But I've always tried to pay close attention to any changes in my body. I think it's important to be aware of the potential risks, but not to be overly anxious. It's always a good idea to have a conversation with your doctor about any concerns you have, and to be proactive about monitoring your health. Appetite changes are pretty common and can be a warning sign of other issues.

I had a friend who had to stop taking this pill because of severe depression. It's scary stuff, and I think it's important to be aware of the potential risks. I certainly wouldn't take this if I had a family history of stroke, or if I smoked. I also wonder if it would be worth if for the long-term side effects? It's so important to check for allergic reactions when you start this, since it can be life threatening. Your doctor will probably ask you about this, but be sure to fill them in.

I've been on this for a year now and haven't had any major issues, just some spotting and slight breast tenderness. I think the spotting will go away under the guidance of my doctor, since the more common side effects are supposed to subside after a few months. But I'd be concerned if anything serious pops up. You should keep an eye out for any signs of liver problems, especially if you have a family history.

Look at you — a medical expert. I think it should be more widely known that this is an emergency contraception pill.
