Life-changing but scary: Carbidopa/levodopa for Parkinson's
I've been prescribed Carbidopa/levodopa 25-100mg Scored T for my Parkinson's and it's been a game-changer. My tremors are under control and I'm moving better than I have in years. But the side effects list is terrifying! Has anyone else experienced any of these serious side effects? I'm particularly worried about the sudden sleepiness and hallucinations. And what's the deal with the dark urine and sweat? Also, how have folks handled the potential for uncontrollable urges? My doctor reassured me, but I'm still on edge. Any advice or shared experiences would be so helpful!

The sudden sleepiness is no joke. I've had it happen, but it usually goes away after a few weeks. I've also had the uncontrollable urges. I went on a shopping spree once. Yes, it was fun, but it wasn't financially responsible. Luckily, I had the sense to contact my doctor. He adjusted my dosage and it stopped. Don't be afraid to talk to your doctor if you experience something extreme like that.
I've been on this med for a few years now and haven't had any major issues. The constipation and dry mouth can be annoying, but I've found that increasing my fiber intake and using a mouth rinse has helped. I've also heard that eating a small, high-protein snack before taking the med can help with nausea. As for the serious side effects, I haven't experienced any of those. Just make sure to follow your doctor's advice and take the medication exactly as prescribed. Hope that helps!
Definitely talk to your doctor about the uncontrollable urges. I've heard of people developing gambling and spending addictions. It's scary stuff. Your doctor might be able to adjust your dosage or recommend additional therapies to mitigate the risk.
Dark urine and sweat? That's new to me... I wonder what that's about. I hope it isn't anything too serious.
I've been on this medication for a couple of months now and haven't experienced any of the serious side effects yet. I do get some constipation and dizziness, but it's manageable. I just make sure to drink plenty of water and eat a balanced diet. Fingers crossed it stays that way!
My dad is on this medication, and he's had a few hallucinations. Not pleasant, he said. They were mostly visual, and he would see things out of the corner of his eye. But it was mostly when he was tired, so he just makes sure to get plenty of rest. You gotta be vigilant with this stuff.
Be careful with the sudden sleepiness! I know someone who dozed off while driving and had a serious accident. Now they make sure to take it before bed, so they're not driving after taking it. Hopefully, you can adjust your schedule to minimize this risk. Also, always keep the lines of communication open with your doctor.
I've heard this medication can cause some people to develop dyskinesia, which are involuntary, erratic, writhing movements of the face, trunk, or limbs. It's scary stuff, but my doctor assured me that it can be managed with medication adjustments and sometimes just reducing the dosage.
