I was recently prescribed this new drug, Tavneos (avacopan) Also referred to as Avacopan. It is used to treat a rare autoimmune disease called ANCA-associated vasculitis. It works by blocking a specific part of your immune system that causes inflammation and damage to small blood vessels. This helps reduce the inflammation and protect your organs. I've heard it can have some serious side effects, so I'm curious to know if anyone else has been on this medication and how it's been for them. I'm specifically interested in hearing about the gut issues that some people have mentioned. Has it been life-changing, or has it been a struggle with all the side effects?

I did the thing where I threw up everything, and then I was unable to keep solids or liquids down. Ended up in the hospital for a few days. I survived, though. I don't know if I would have taken this medication if I had known about these side effects, but my doctor and I have discussed stopping it permanently since I have not been doing well.

OMG, the diarrhea was insane! I had to start taking Immodium with every meal. It was like my body was trying to evacuate everything at once.

Does anyone know if the side effects go away after a while, or do they stick around for the duration of the treatment?

For me, the side effects got better after the first few weeks. I still get some nausea and diarrhea, but it's not as bad as it was at the beginning.

I had to go on a bland diet for a while. No spicy foods, no dairy, nothing fried. It sucked, but it helped a lot. I'm slowly reintroducing things now, and it seems to be okay.
