Life saver or risky business? My experience with Cipro-HC Otic for ear infections
I've been dealing with persistent ear infections (otitis externa) for months, and my doctor finally prescribed me Cipro-HC Otic Suspension 10ml. This seems like a heavy-duty medication, what do others make of this? What are the odds of experiencing side effects and how do they compare to not treating the infection? Although the antibiotic and steroid combo should certainly kill the bacteria and reduce inflammation, I'm a bit worried after reading about the potential side effects. Has anyone else had a similar experience with this medication? Are there any recommendations or tips to mitigate any possible side effects?

Oh wow. Yeah. Stay away from this crap. I tried it and felt like the pharmacist gave me poison.
I've used Cipro-HC Otic before and it worked wonders for my ear infection. Just make sure to follow the instructions carefully and use it for the full duration prescribed by your doctor, even if symptoms improve.
I personally never had side effects and it worked for me. Definitely a good choice if you need to stay away from broad-spectrum antibiotics to save your gut flora.
The instructions say to warm the bottle in your hand before use, which makes sense since it's an oil-based solution. Also, don't forget to tilt your head and pull your outer ear gently to help the drops fall in properly.
Not sure exactly how it works but I feel like these types of drops always leave the inside of my ear feeling really weird. You know what I mean? Like there's something still in there, but it's just the liquid sulfur or whatever. It's really weird.
I’ve had to use this a few times and it’s always been effective for me. Make sure NOT to use it if you have a perforated eardrum though, you’ll get a fungal infection.
This stuff really helped with the swelling and pain. But if you're having a bad reaction, stop using it and get to the ER. Don't be a hero, you're saving your life.
I hear you on the side effects front. I had a friend who had a similar reaction, the doctor said the steroid component might have been to blame. Be vigilant: keep an eye out for rash, hives, and difficulty breathing—those are the big red flags.
