Andexxa is a powerful medication used to reverse the effects of certain blood thinners in emergency situations. Given by injection into a vein, it helps blood to clot normally again by binding to the blood thinner. However, due to its rapid action, there's an increased risk of blood clots forming afterwards. This thread is for sharing experiences, asking questions, and discussing the urgent and other possible side effects. If you or someone you know has used Andexxa, please share your story. For those considering or prescribed this medication, what do you need to know? It's crucial to understand the risks, benefits, and what to do if you experience side effects. Let's discuss!

Also, keep an eye out for signs of a UTI. My cousin was in the hospital for a few days after using Andexxa and ended up with one.

How do they decide when to use Andexxa vs. just waiting it out? Seems risky to me.

That's terrifying! All the more reason to make sure to weigh the risks properly before using this drug.

The scary part of this medication is that it's a complete reversal of the blood thinner's effects.

This medication is not a joke. While it can be a lifesaver, the risk of blood clots is real. Monitor closely after treatment. I recommend setting up an immediate follow-up with a hematologist to monitor for clotting issues.

True. And don't forget, signs of a blood clot can include chest pain, shortness of breath, or swelling and pain in a limb. Seemingly minor issues can turn serious.

I had a family member who had a severe bleeding issue and Andexxa was used. It worked, but the docs monitored them closely for blood clots. Gave me some anxiety.

An hour-long infusion. A guy in my ICU ward had exactly that experience. He laughed he experienced flushing and felt really hot for a bit.

The decision to use Andexxa is typically made in emergency situations where the bleeding is severe and uncontrolled. The risk of waiting can be higher than the risk of blood clots, especially in the case of a severe brain bleed. It's all about the tradeoffs.

I had a hard time with the taste change side effect. A weird metallic taste in my mouth for a day. Not sure if it was Andexxa or not ...
