Life with Niacin 100mg Tablets: Dealing with Flushing and Other Side Effects
I've been taking Niacin 100mg Tablets for a few weeks now to help manage my cholesterol levels. The flushing is pretty intense, especially when I first started taking it. I've read that taking aspirin before Niacin can help, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. Has anyone else experienced this, and what did you do to manage it?
I'm also curious about the long-term side effects. The list is quite long, and I'm a bit concerned. Has anyone been on Niacin for an extended period? What was your experience like? I'm particularly worried about liver problems and high blood sugar. Please share your thoughts.
On a side note, I'm pretty relieved that my doctor caught my vitamin deficiency early. I had no idea that pellagra was a thing! How did you all find out about your need for Niacin?

I had a really bad experience with Niacin. I ended up in the ER with severe muscle pain. Turns out, it was rhabdomyolysis. Scary stuff. But my doctor said it’s rare and that most people are fine. Just be diligent about checking for symptoms.
I’m so glad I found this thread. I've been dreading the flushing side effect. Any tips on managing it would be super helpful! Also, I've heard about the liver issues, so I'll definitely be keeping an eye on that.
I take aspirin before my Niacin, and it helps a lot with the flushing. But yeah, it's not a pleasant experience. I've had some mild itching too. It's worth talking to your doctor about, though. You'll want to check if you should take aspirin with Niacin. Otherwise, it may cause ulcers.
I’ve had a similar experience as @commenter2. The flushing is rough, but it does get better. Just be cautious and listen to your body. If anything feels really off, don’t hesitate to call your doctor.
I was on Niacin for a while, but I had to stop because of the itching. It was just too much. I switched to a different medication and it’s been fine. Everyone’s body reacts differently, so don’t feel bad if you have to switch.
I know someone who took Niacin and ended up with some pretty nasty skin issues. It’s not fun. But for the most part, people seem to do okay. Just keep an eye out for any weird symptoms and talk to your doctor if something doesn’t feel right.
I think the flushing is worth it for the benefits. I had high cholesterol and Niacin really helped. Plus, I didn’t feel the flushing all that much after a while. Just make sure you talk to your doctor about any concerns.
I've been on Niacin for six months now. The flushing does get better over time. For me, it was worse if I exercised right after taking it. As for side effects, I haven't had any major issues, just the occasional upset stomach. But everyone is different, so keep an eye out!
My doctor told me to avoid alcohol while on Niacin. I guess it can make the flushing worse. Has anyone else had that experience? Also, watch out for other people's contact if they are allergic to Niacin.
