Life with Prednisolone AC 1% Eye Drops: Sharing Experiences and Side Effects
I was prescribed Prednisolone AC 1% Ophth Susp 15ml eye drops after my recent eye surgery, and I've been using them for a few weeks now. They've been effective in reducing the redness and irritation, but I've also experienced some side effects like a burning sensation and changes in taste. I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences or if there are any tips to minimize these side effects. I've also seen some scary stuff online about serious allergies so I hope that doesn't happen to me. Here are some of the side effects I've seen online:
Important Side Effects to Report to Your Doctor Immediately
- Rash
- Hives
- Itching
- Red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever
- Wheezing
- Tightness in the chest or throat
- Trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking
- Unusual hoarseness
- Swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat
- Changes in eyesight, eye pain, or severe eye irritation
Other Possible Side Effects
- Changes in taste
- Feeling of something in the eye
- Headache
- Burning or stinging sensation
- Eye irritation
This list is not exhaustive, and you may experience other side effects not mentioned here.

I've had changes in taste when I've used Prednisolone in the past. It was weird, but it went away after I stopped using the drops. Maybe it's just something we have to deal with until the prescription is over.
I had a bit of a headache, but it went away after a few days. I took some Tylenol for it, and it helped some, but not really. I think it was worth it, since the eye itself wasn't bothering me anymore.
I had a really bad reaction to these drops. I broke out in hives, and my throat felt like it was closing. I had to go to the ER, and it was scary. I think I'm allergic to them
I didn't have any side effects, but I did notice that the drops made my eye water a lot. It was annoying, but not a big deal. Plus, it washed out any crud in my eye, so that was nice.
I didn't have any major side effects, but I did feel like there was something in my eye all the time. It was annoying, but not unbearable. I had a cold so that could have been part of it.
