Loratadine 5mg Chewable Tabs: Do they really work for kids with allergies, and what are the potential side effects?
I've been giving my kid Loratadine 5mg Chewable Tabs for their seasonal allergies, and I've seen a significant reduction in symptoms like sneezing and itchy eyes. However, I'm a bit concerned about the potential side effects, especially the urgent ones. Has anyone else had experiences with these tablets? I'd love to hear about both the positive and negative side effects you've encountered. Also, how do you handle dosing? The package says they are chewable, but I've found that they are a bit hard for my kid to chew. Do you give them with food or water, or if you have any tips, please share.

Loratadine has been a lifesaver for my kid's allergies. We've used the chewables for a few seasons now, and while they're a bit on the large side for a young kid to chew, breaking them into halves works well. I've had no issues with anything other than a bit of drowsiness, but that was only at the beginning. I've never had any of the serious side effects listed on the package.
I'm glad to hear it's working for your kids! My son takes them, and I don't think he's suffered any bad side effects other than a headache now and then.
Does anyone find that the chewable Loratadine is drowsy for kids? If so, would you recommend something else?
I've noticed that with any allergy medication, you need to find the right one and the right dose for your child. If the 5mg tabs aren't enough, you might need to consult your doctor about increasing the dose or trying a different medication. It's always best to get professional advice when dealing with medications, especially for kids.
I agree with the above posts. Loratadine has been a game-changer for my kid's allergies. We've had no serious side effects, just the occasional drowsiness. As for dosing, we usually give them with a bit of water before a meal, but I've often asked my doctor for dosing advice. Always better to be safe with these things. Also, you can buy them off amazon, or get them from Costco in bulk for cheaper pricing.
Side effects sucks but the medication works great.
What do you do if the tablets are not enough for your child? Do you just give another dose or go to the doctor?
I'm not trusting the reviews on this medication. I would recommend always talking to your doctor.
