Lotronex (alosetron) is a prescription medicine used to treat severe irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D) in women who haven't found relief from other treatments. It works by blocking a chemical in your gut that can cause pain and diarrhea. However, due to serious side effects, it's only prescribed to those who are really in need. If you've tried everything else and still suffer, is Lotronex worth the risk? Let's talk about our experiences with this medication, the good and the bad. How has Lotronex impacted your life? How did you find this medicine? What were the side effects?

TMI alert, but I had such bad constipation on Lotronex that I ended up in the ER. Never again. I think there are good alternatives out there. Have you tried something else? Let me know.

I've been on Lotronex for a few months now, and it's been a game-changer. No more constant bathroom trips or that awful stomach pain. But I had to go through a bunch of tests and track my symptoms before my doctor would even consider prescribing it. Makes me wonder why anyone would consider this drug if they had not tried a bunch of other things first. It’s definitely not a first-line treatment. Does anyone else feel like they had to go through a bunch of hoops to get it?

For those considering Lotronex, make sure you understand the risks. The potential side effects are no joke. I had a friend who ended up in the hospital with severe constipation and other issues. Talk to your doctor and weigh the pros and cons carefully. For me it was a good balance, but I had to read the manual and discuss everything with my doctor before I started taking it.

Just started Lotronex and already feeling better. Knock on wood, no major side effects yet. Fingers crossed it stays that way. How long until you started noticing improvements?

I had to stop Lotronex because of the allergic reaction. My throat was closing up, and I couldn't breathe. Scariest moment of my life. If you experience any signs of an allergic reaction, seek help immediately. Honestly, I don't know if I would risk taking it again, and I did not have the reaction right away which was even worse.

Lotronex saved my life. I had tried everything else, and nothing worked. Now, I can actually leave the house without worrying about where the nearest bathroom is. It's a lifesaver. But if I had another option, I would take it.

I'm on my second round of Lotronex. The first time, I had some bad constipation. But my doctor adjusted the dose, and now I'm doing much better. It's definitely a trial-and-error process, but it's worth it for the relief.

I've been on Lotronex for a few months now. I've had some nausea and upset stomach, but it's manageable. The diarrhea Control is worth it to me. A lot better than the alternative, my doctors says I can try to change the dosage. What dosage are you on and how is it going so far?

I had a horrible reaction to Lotronex. Within a week, I started having severe constipation and abdominal pain. It was terrifying. I had to stop taking it immediately and ended up in the ER to get checked out. I had a horrible experience with this drug, I guess it is not a good fit for everyone. I think i need to discuss this with my doctor.

My doctor was super hesitant to prescribe Lotronex. She made me try a bunch of other things first. But once I started, it was like a miracle. No more constant diarrhea or stomach pain. It's been a game-changer for me.
