I was prescribed Maxitrol eye drops to treat an eye infection, but my doctor didn't say much about the side effects. I did some reading and it's kinda concerning. Has anyone else experienced any side effects from this medication? I'm especially worried about the ones that say to seek medical help immediately. What's the likelihood of these serious side effects happening? I've only experienced a bit of irritation, but I'm not sure if that's normal. I also want to know, what happens if you miss a dose or do I just put in the next dose asap? I didn't take it exactly as prescribed for a couple days and I'm not sure if that makes it less effective. I did see something about avoiding wearing contact lenses during the treatment period, is this true?

I was given Maxitrol for a corneal abrasion. The antibiotic in the drops prevented further infection. However, the steroid caused my eye pressure to go up. After several weeks it got bad enough that I ended up needing to take another prescription to control the pressure.

I've had to use Maxitrol a couple of times and I found that it's best to use it on a timer, so I never miss a dose, I even set a reminder so I don’t accidentally forget. I've had no issues with it at all.

Wow, that sucks. I hope you're feeling better now! I've never heard of eye drops doing that, though.

I've never used it, but my mom is an Ophthalmologist and she says it's a pretty common prescription for eye infections. She recommends keeping the tip away from touching your eye to avoid contamination. Also, be sure to finish the entire bottle, as stopping early can lead to a relapse of the infection.

Maxitrol does seem to work for eye infections and the steroid does help reduce the swelling and redness. However, I did have some side effects, other than irritation, but they were minor. I experienced a strange metallic taste, but it went away after I finish using the drops. I did miss one dose but I called my doctor and he said I could catch up the next day, but to take it on time the rest of the time. I did not wear my contacts, I was super cautious.

I had Maxitrol prescribed for me a few months back as well and honestly, I didn't have any side effects other than a bit of temporary eye irritation. The main side effects you need to worry about are the super severe ones like having trouble breathing or if your skin starts to peel off. I was freaking out when I first saw the list but my doctor said those are SUPER rare and to just be cautious and call him if anything like that happened..

I've been using Maxitrol for a couple of weeks now, and I've noticed that my eyes are definitely less red and irritated. I was super worried about the side effects, but I haven't had any issues at all. However, I did notice that it takes a few seconds for my vision to clear up after I put the drops in, so that's something to keep in mind if you're driving or doing something that requires good vision.
