I've been using Mesalamine Rectal Suspension 7x60ml for a few weeks now to treat my ulcerative proctitis. It's been helping with the inflammation, but I've experienced some side effects that have me a bit concerned. Has anyone else had issues with this medication? I've read about some serious side effects, and I just want to make sure I'm not alone in dealing with these. How long did it take for the side effects to subside for you?

I've been dealing with stomach pain and nausea while taking this. My doctor recommended taking it right before bed to minimize the discomfort. It's a bit of a hassle, but it's made a big difference. Be sure to give it a try if you're having trouble.

I had a pretty severe reaction to mesalamine — ended up with some serious skin issues and had to stop taking it. If you experience anything unusual, like red, blistered skin or fever, don't wait to see if it gets better. Get to a doctor right away. It's scary, but better safe than sorry. But I hope it works out for you; I know how tough ulcerative proctitis can be.

I get really bad gas after using this. Anyone else? I'm kind of at a loss.

This stuff is a godsend. I've been fighting with proctosigmoiditis for years, and this has finally given me some relief. Just make sure you're doing the enema correctly—there's a bit of a knack to it.

Thinking of making the switch. How long did it take for you to see some improvement? Did it take a while to get used to it?

I've been using this with some success — though I'd much rather not have anything 'up my butt' since I'm trying to be as positive about this as possible.
