I was recently prescribed Metformin ER 1000mg Modified Tabs to help manage my type 2 diabetes. I've been taking it for a few weeks now and have noticed some improvements in my blood sugar levels. However, I've also experienced some side effects like stomach pain and diarrhea, which has been a bit challenging. I've heard that some people take it at night to minimize these side effects. Has anyone else had this issue and found a way to mitigate it? Also, I'm curious about how others have adjusted to this medication. Any tips or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

My doctor told me that the extended-release version is generally better tolerated, and it is. I've heard some people who have trouble keeping glucose steady or who have stomach issues with regular metformin do better on this version

Did your doctor recommend any specific diet changes along with the medication?

I agree with the night dose advice. I was taking it in the morning, but switching to nighttime significantly reduced my stomach issues. Also, make sure to stay hydrated and avoid high-sugar foods!

Sometimes I forget to take it in the evening, and I just take it whenever I remember. Do you think there's a big difference between taking it at night vs. during the day? Does anybody actually know if the time of day you take it matters?

Make sure to discuss any concerns with your doctor. I had to switch from the 1000mg to the 500mg due to some uncomfortable side effects. They also recommended taking it with a meal to help alleviate the discomfort.

This is great advice and a great example, but what happens if you forget to take it one day? Is it dangerous to skip a dose?
