I was recently prescribed Methenamine Hippurate 1gm Tablets for recurrent urinary tract infections. The doctor explained that it works by releasing formaldehyde in the urine to kill bacteria, but it's crucial to maintain acidic urine for it to be effective. I've been taking it for a few weeks and so far, no issues, but I'm curious about others' experiences. Have any of you had success with this medication? Any tips on keeping urine acidic? I've read about the side effects, but I'm still a bit worried about the more serious ones like allergic reactions or bladder pain. Has anyone experienced these? Also, how important is it to report side effects to the FDA? I want to do the proper thing, but what if my side effects are minor?

I had no idea this medication worked by releasing formaldehyde. That's intense! Just make sure you're keeping your urine pH low. Cranberry juice can help with that, but check with your doctor first. Also, always report side effects, even if they seem minor. It helps the FDA track the safety of the drug.

If you're experiencing an upset stomach, try taking the tablet with food. It helped me a lot.

This stuff is a game-changer. No more constant UTIs for me! Just follow the doctor's orders and you'll be fine.

Has anyone tried this with a diet high in protein? I've heard it can make urine more alkaline.

The FDA reporting thing is serious stuff. They can't help if they don't know there's a problem. But yeah, definitely talk to your doctor first if you're having issues.

I had some blood in my urine and it freaked me out, but the doctor said it was just a minor side effect. Still, better to be safe and check with your doctor regularly.

I've been on Methenamine Hippurate for months now. It's been a lifesaver for my recurrent UTIs. Just make sure to drink plenty of water and avoid anything that makes your urine alkaline, like citrus fruits. I've had a few minor side effects like an upset stomach, but nothing too bad.

Be careful, though. My friend had a bad reaction to it and ended up in the ER with severe allergic symptoms. It's important to know the signs so you can seek medical attention immediately.

I was on this for a while and it worked great. But I switched to a different medication because of the side effects. Just be aware that everyone's body reacts differently.

I wish I had known about this sooner. It's been a blessing for me.
