Mirena IUD: My Experience and Thoughts on This Hormonal Birth Control Method
I've been using the Mirena IUD for about a year now, and I have to say, it's been a game-changer. For those who don't know, Mirena is a small, T-shaped device that releases a hormone called levonorgestrel directly into your uterus. It's super effective for both birth control and treating heavy periods. I had it inserted to help with my endometriosis-related periods which were often painful and heavy. I was nervous about the insertion process, but my doctor explained how it works in detail. The insertion did cause some discomfort but it was tolerable. I didn't experience any serious side effects. I did have some spotting and cramping during the first few weeks, but that went away. I've heard of some people experiencing more severe symptoms, though, so it's definitely something to discuss with your doctor. I'm glad I made the switch, but I know everyone's experience is different. I've heard great stories about how it helped menorrhagia (heavy periods), I'd love to hear more of your experiences, especially if you've used it for a long time!

Mirena saved me from my heavy periods. But my periods are way less now and I don't have to worry about birth control ever day..
I will never recommend Mirena to anyone. I've had a bunch of side effects and I know someone who had an allergic reaction. Some people have it worse than others.
I had Mirena inserted for birth control and it was quite helpful. But I had some mood swings and depression I wasn't expecting. It was manageable and of course, birth control was worth it for me, but I wanted to share my experience to balance out all the positive feedback.
I'm on mine for 3 years and my periods are barely there. I didn't expect that change but I'm not complaining!
I got mine out after 4 years. I loved it but my body couldn't handle the hormone on the Mirena. I didn't realize it was an option but Kyleena has less hormone so I want to get that one soon. If you're reading this and you have heavy periods or just want birth control, do your research and find out what you really want.
I've had it for 5 years and I still love it. Have you all considered upgrading to the Kyleena with levonorgestrel?
I had an allergic reaction to the Mirena IUD. It was awful. My doctor didn't catch it initially, and I had to go through some pretty intense symptoms before she listened to me and took it out. Be careful everyone!
I've had mine for almost 2 years. The insertion was pretty painful, but the payoff has been amazing. I had terrible periods before, and now they're barely there. The only downside is occasional cramps but they're much less frequent and intense.
I've only had mine for 6 months, but so far, so good. No serious side effects yet. I have heard there are some rare but serious problems. Definitely do your research
