The Moderna Bivalent vaccine, designed for children aged 6 to 11, is now available. It's designed to protect against COVID-19 and specifically targets the Omicron BA.4/BA.5 variants. Given as an injection, the vaccine helps build immunity without causing illness. As parents, it's crucial to understand the benefits, potential side effects, and what to watch for after vaccination. Here, we discuss what parents need to know, potential reactions, and how to report any issues.

I took my daughter for her shot yesterday. She had a bit of swelling at the injection site and felt a bit tired, but overall she was fine. The vaccination nurse told me her reaction was pretty typical.

I've heard that the reports of allergic reactions are pretty rare in children. It's a bit scary, but I think the protection it provides is worth the risk. I'm glad the nurse assured me that there would be a few medical professionals on site if needed.

Has anyone else had trouble finding a place to get their kids vaccinated? I've called around, and most places seem to have a waitlist or are fully booked.

The side effects seem pretty mild. I didn't know that heart problems could be a concern, though. I'm glad that my kiddo gets to be safe and protected from COVID-19. The heart problems only happen in rare cases, the doctor assured me.

My son had a fever and was irritable for a day after the shot, but he was back to normal the next day. Totally worth it to keep him safe from COVID-19. This is much less hassle than a full-blown infection or long COVID.

I'm glad to see the discussion. This is really important for keeping our kids safe. It doesn't seem like this vaccine is any different than others we've had to give them in the past. I'm going to have to talk to my husband about it too.

Just wanted to share: if your kid is really anxious about shots, ask the nurse about numbing the area first. It made a huge difference for my kid. They cried a bit, but it was over quickly and they were fine right after. Getting them vaccinated is really important to keep them safe and to keep others safe. The numbing cream really helps with the vaccine discomfort.
