I also had back pain and joint stiffness, which made my workouts difficult. My doctor assured me that these symptoms are common and should subside after a few months. I'm now on my final month of treatment and hoping the side effects won't linger. I've heard some scary stories about people who experienced more serious side effects, but I'm grateful to not have dealt with anything too severe. I was terrified of the birth defects thing, but I was on birth control and got tested every month. It was a bit more work but worth it for the end result.

Couldn't agree more with the mood swings comment. I had them quite severely, and I have never been so affected by season changes. It made the whole process feel even more miserable. I think everyone's experience on Accutane is going to vary. I know people who had no side effects at all, and others who found it much harder to deal with. It’s just a waiting game and a lot of self-care. The good news is, it works really well for many people, myself included.
