My aunt is pregnant and just started treatment with magnesium sulfate. She’s been given Magn Sulf/d5w 10mg/ml Inj, 100ml for pre-eclampsia. I know it's used to prevent seizures, but I’m worried about the side effects. This is her first pregnancy and she's really scared. Can anyone share their experiences or any advice on how to handle this? What symptoms should I be on the lookout for? She's having trouble sleeping while on this treatment.

Magnesium sulfate can be a lifesaver for women with pre-eclampsia. It works by relaxing muscles and calming the nervous system, which can help prevent seizures. But yes, the side effects can be rough. Make sure she talks to her doctor about any concerns she has.

Magnesium sulfate is used for severe asthma attacks too? I thought it was mostly for pre-eclampsia. What are the side effects for asthma patients?

My wife was given magnesium sulfate for pre-eclampsia. The doctors kept a close eye on her magnesium levels to make sure they didn't get too high. She had some muscle cramps and tingling, but nothing too bad. Just make sure your aunt stays in constant communication with her healthcare team.

This thread is making me anxious, I had no idea magnesium sulfate has so many side effects. Anybody take this because of severe asthma?

I had a friend who had to stop using it because of severe muscle weakness and vision changes. It's definitely serious stuff, so keep an eye out for those symptoms.
