I gave my 2-month-old the Rotarix vaccine yesterday, and today she's been extremely fussy, has a high fever, and seems to be in pain. I'm really worried. I've read that these symptoms could indicate a severe reaction, but I want to know if anyone else has dealt with this. I'm not sure if I should go to the ER. I don't want to be overreacting but also don't want to ignore something serious. She had her first dose and we were recommended a second dose in a few weeks.

My child had a few small issues with it but nothing major. But the symptoms you are talking about are serious. Please go and get them checked out. No point in risking it.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I would definitely call your pediatrician or go to the ER if the symptoms persist. Better safe than sorry.

Wow, that's scary. I didn’t know the side effects could be that severe. I’m definitely going to do more research before giving it to my son.

I had the same reaction to the vaccine for my daughter. I’d noticed a rash but dismissed it initially. When her stools had blood in them and she developed a high fever, I rushed her to the ER and they ran a bunch of tests and confirmed she had a severe allergic reaction. She was treated there and is doing well now.

It sounds terrible. I’d say go to the ER if you think it's worse than a reaction. But if you feel it's just a mild reaction, just talk to your pediatrician. I remember our pediatrician runs a panel of tests and seems a lot more well-versed in this.

Please, don't panic but be aware of any sudden change. We gave Rotarix to all three of our kids and they were all fine! I know it’s different for every child but they are so resilient. I hope your little one feels better soon.

It’s been a few hours since my daughter got the vaccine and I’m noticing she has a slight runny nose and she’s just a bit fussy. I thought that was normal for a vaccine reaction. Is that what’s happening?

Yes, I feel you. The first thing I did after hearing the symptoms was to call 911 and they advised me to go to the hospital. My baby was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease, which is rare but possible after the Rotarix vaccine. So, please, don't wait if your baby is showing these symptoms.

I'm so glad someone mentioned Kawasaki disease. I had no idea that could be a side effect. I’m definitely going to bring this up with my doctor next time I see him.
