I was prescribed Morphine Sulfate 10mg/ml injections for severe pain and have had a variety of experiences with the side effects. I am concerned about some of the urgent side effects listed, particularly the ones related to allergic reactions and breathing difficulties. Has anyone else experienced these side effects? Additionally, it seems like some of the additional side effects, such as constipation and fatigue, are more common. These side effects have been tolerable but still bothersome. I'd like to know if other people experience them and if there are ways to manage them. The medication is definitely effective at managing my pain, but I want to make sure I'm aware of any potential risks and how to handle them.

This thread is a bit depressing. I wish there was a safer alternative for severe pain. So much potential for bad side effects!

Anyone else feel super anxious when they started on morphine? My doc put me on it when I broke my leg and I felt really paranoid at first. I thought it was pretty bad but it went away after a few days.

I had no idea morphine could cause serotonin syndrome. That sounds terrifying. Good thing I never had to take it.

When I broke my leg I was prescribed morphine. I had some bad constipation, but managed it with lots of water and over-the-counter meds. I heard if you take it for a long time it can mess with your hormones. That’s scary but I was only on it for a few weeks, so I lucked out!

Honestly, if you can avoid opioids, do it. I was on morphine and it was a nightmare. I got a stomach pump from the constant constipation. I am never taking that stuff again.

After my dental surgery, I was given morphine injections and along with all the other side effects I had a really hard time getting a good night’s sleep. It was frustrating because I needed the sleep to heal but the medication made it hard to relax.

Morphine worked well for me for a short period. I was worried about becoming dependent on it, especially since I had to take it for a few months after an accident. My doc had me taper off gradually, and I didn't have any major issues with withdrawal. It’s a powerful drug, but it’s important to follow the doctor’s instructions carefully.

I was on morphine for a while after surgery, and the dizziness was awful. I felt like I was walking on a boat the whole time. Also, the dry mouth was the worst. I had to constantly drink water but it never seemed to help. I was relieved when I could switch to something else.

I've been on morphine for a few months and I haven't had any major issues, just the occasional dizziness and dry mouth. I am just careful to take it as directed and stay hydrated. I think it's important to monitor your body closely when on any strong medication.
