My experience with Desipramine 50mg Tablets - Tricyclic Antidepressant for Depression
I was recently prescribed Desipramine 50mg Tablets to help manage my depression. This medication belongs to a class of drugs called tricyclic antidepressants and works by restoring the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain, particularly norepinephrine. While I've heard it can be effective, I'm also concerned about the potential side effects. There are some serious ones to look out for, like allergic reactions and serotonin syndrome. Has anyone else tried this medication? What was your experience like?

Weight gain and weight loss can happen with this med. I was lucky to avoid it, but my friend who was on it went through the opposite. She could barely eat and dropped a bunch of weight.
I hear you. The first few weeks are rough. Stick with it and give yourself some grace, but also keep your doctor in the loop.
I think it's important to advocate for yourself. If you're feeling unusual side effects, don't wait to see if they go away. Talk to your doctor ASAP. There are plenty of other medications out there, and one that has fewer side effects for you might be the better fit.
Anyone else have issues with weight gain? I've put on 10 pounds and I'm trying to eat better, but I can't stop snacking.
Be aware of the food and drug interactions too. I had to cut out a lot of my favorite foods and drinks because of the possible interactions. Unfortunately, some side effects like sweating and dizziness have stuck around, but my depression is much better managed.
