I was recently prescribed Mannitol 25% Inj, 50ml to help with brain swelling after a surgery. I've heard it can be a bit intense, but my doctor assured me it's necessary. Has anyone else had experience with this? Were the side effects as bad as they sound? I'm especially worried about the serious ones like kidney problems or acidosis. Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!

I'm a nurse, and I've seen a few cases where Mannitol really helped. However, one patient had severe allergic reactions. It's crucial to be monitored closely during the infusion. Make sure your medical team is aware of any reactions, no matter how small.

Does anyone know if Mannitol is used for other types of swelling besides brain swelling? I have swelling in my eyes and was wondering if this could help.

I've seen Mannitol used in the ICU for patients with brain injuries. It works fast, but the nurses have to keep a close eye on the patients. The side effects can be scary, but they manage them well.

Serious question: Does anyone know if Mannitol interacts badly with other meds? I'm on a bunch of stuff already, and I don't want to make things worse.

I've had Mannitol a few times and it kicked my brain swelling to the curb. Yes, the side effects are a pain, but the relief from brain swelling is worth it. Just talk to your doctor about any concerns you have.
