I recently had to induce labor and was given Pitocin. I was hoping it would help with contractions like it was supposed to but it caused such severe side effects.I ended up having a severe allergic reaction, including hives and trouble breathing. I had to be rushed to the ICU. The doctors later told me it was a rare but real side effect of the drug. Did anyone else experience anything similar? Does anyone know why this happens? How can we prevent this? Are there any other drugs that can help induce labor without the severe side effects? Having Pitocin in my system was scary and I would like to know more about it now.

I had an encounter with Pitocin. I had to be rushed to the hospital with a swollen face. Fortunately, I ended up okay, but it was a scary experience for me. I had never experienced anything like it. That's scary to imagine experiencing during a birth. My husband was terrified too.

Yikes, that sounds awful. I was given Pitocin and it did nothing. I had to go in your own labor later. I was so worried that i would have to deal with Pitocin again to help my labor progress.
