Has anyone else experienced severe skin irritation while using Tazarotene 0.05% Gel to treat acne? I've been using it for about a month now, and while it seems to be helping with my breakouts, my skin is incredibly dry, itchy, and irritated. I've tried moisturizing more frequently, but the irritation persists. I'm not sure if I should stick it out or switch to a different treatment. Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Oh wow, I had no idea it could be that bad. I had some irritation, but nothing like what you're describing. I had this horrible redness and peeling. I recommend taking a break from it and seeing how your skin does. If it seems to recover then you could try again but I had to use it less frequently.

I had a bad reaction to Tazarotene but my doctor switched me to something similar and I've had great results. I'm sure you can find a topical that works for you without the irritation! And it sounds like you're having reactions to the gel I had redness and puffiness when I used it.

The initial irritation is normal, but if it's severe, it might be worth consulting your doctor. Some people have allergic reactions and need to stop using it immediately. Can you describe the irritation more specifically?

Make sure you're not using any other harsh products with it. I made that mistake and my skin paid the price. I also found that using it less frequently helped significantly.

This is my 2nd time trying this stuff and I got redness and peeling every time. but, it cleared up my skin big time.

I tried tazarotene for a week and got red, flaking skin and the burning sensation was horrible. I wonder if you're applying it too frequently! I am sensitive to strong topicals, so I'm trying something else.

I've been using tazarotene for a few months and although I do experience some dryness and redness, I find that applying a good moisturizer after helps a lot! Also, I've found that using it on alternating nights helps me avoid irritation.

You might want to talk to your dermatologist about adjusting your routine. Some people need to ease into stronger topicals like tazarotene. I second the idea of a gentle moisturizer. My derm recommended Cetaphil which I put on after every shower. Also, you might be applying it too frequently. I only use it every other night.

I've had great results with Tazarotene, but the burning sensation was brutal at first. It's supposed to get better over time but I think the leaflet said to use it less frequently if you're having issues. I'm not sure if that's true. Maybe try every other day.
