Just got Demerol via injection for a procedure at the hospital today. I was scared after reading the side effects, especially the serotonin syndrome part. The pain relief was great and I didn't experience anything unexpected. Has anyone else had positive and/or any bad experiences to share?

Demerol saved me during childbirth. I had a bad experience with another pain medication before, and Demerol was the only thing that worked for me, I didn't experience any side effects besides some dizziness. My doctor mentioned Demerol is usually meant for short-term use, so I was cautious about using it long-term.

I had Demerol for post-surgery pain management. The pain relief was excellent, but I did experience some dizziness and drowsiness. It was temporary, though. I also noticed some constipation but my doctor gave me some advice to help me out.

I've heard that Demerol is falling out of favor with doctors. Apparently, the risk of side effects is just too high, including the seratonin syndrome you mentioned. Other medications might be safer.

This is why opioids are so controversial. They can be lifesavers but also very dangerous.

I always joke that Demerol makes you feel like you're walking on clouds. It's not a joke when you're trying to drive a car on it.
