New to Kuvan? Helpful tips and advice from PKU community
I've been prescribed Kuvan 100mg Powder For Oral Sol for my PKU. I'm trying to get a plan together now, but all the info seems overwhelming. I know Kuvan helps break down phenylalanine, but I'm scared of the side effects. I've heard of a lot of people who are taking it and managing a lot of the common problems. What has been your experience and how do you manage it? Is it really as hard as it seems to manage the diet portion? Any tips on planning meals or taking the medicine?

I've been on Kuvan for a few years now. I have to be careful with taking Kuvan while eating because it messes with my stomach. I try to take it at the same time every day to keep my levels stable. I also pay attention to labels, and if I'm not sure, I check with my dietician. It's not perfect, but it works
Take it easy on yourself. You’re going to get overwhelmed at first. It’s a lot to manage, but you’re not alone. There are lots of PKU groups online where you can get support.
I’ve been on Kuvan for over four years. I was a bit skeptical at first, but it made a big difference. At first, I had trouble with the taste, but I mixed it with apple sauce and that really helped. No need to freak out about the side effects. Just pay attention and if you experience anything, you can talk to your doctor.
You should look into some protein substitutes if you have trouble with the taste.
Kuvan was a game-changer for me after the initial adjustment period. The key is consistency. Consistent medication and diet. It's really important to be consistent with both. I also keep a diet planner and a log book for symptoms. It sounds like a lot, but it really helps. I even keep track of my moods and how they relate to levels.
